When fear meets FAITH

7:14:00 PM

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6

It's scary, isn't it, not knowing?

Not knowing if all the bills are going to be paid. Not knowing the official diagnosis. Not knowing if they'll call back. Not knowing whether you should stay or go. Not knowing if they're telling the truth. Not knowing what comes next.

It's so hard when you feel like you've lost control.

But then again, is it really up to us? I'm not saying that you shouldn't care about your life, what you do or how you treat people- but if you really think about it, isn't everything in God's Hands?

I'm the type of person who loves knowing what comes next. I can't stand surprises. I genuinely cringe at unexpected change and I have a hard time being spontaneous. (Don't I just sound super fun!) But that's just how I am. I'm not saying that I'm not working on it. I do the occasional spontaneous act and surprise change in schedule. But I too, struggle very deeply when it comes to the things that happen in my life. I too become fearful. Anxious. Nervous. Doubtful.

So here I am, writing this entry to share with you guys how I cope with most of life's tough questions and situations. Here's how I combat FEAR with Faith.

Give us this day our daily bread.

  Matthew 6:11
I've memorized and recited the Lord's Prayer for as long as I can remember. It was taught to me early on in school and I knew it ever since. But just this Prayer and Fasting did I genuinely, whole-heartedly, realize just how powerful and comforting this prayer is. After all, Jesus did teach it.

Being someone who works in the industry that I do, months can be very lucrative and other months can be very dry. Because I help out with household expenses and pay for my own things, money has always been something that I try my best to control and quite frankly, prioritize. Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong about money. The Bible never said money was bad. God blesses us because He knows that we need it to survive in this world (I mean, you can't buy groceries with just your pleasing personality right?) but we have to remember that the love of money is what makes things more difficult. When money comes before dependance on God, then we have a problem.

I used to always pray to God for tons of gigs, opportunities and money so I could help out around the house. I used to ask for so much and again, there's nothing wrong with coming to God for requests, but what I realized was it wasn't that God wasn't listening to my prayers, it was that I wasn't praying the right way. Ever since I took to heart the Lord's Prayer, even my perspective on provision changed. Instead of praying to God every single day for this and that, I now pray for Him to provide whatever He thinks my family and I need for that month. It's not easy, especially when you lift something up to God, but let me tell you, HE DELIVERSEvery. Single. Time.

We haven't had a month where money was tight or we didn't have food or electricity. We travel, watch movies, eat out and shop! God always makes sure that every single month we have more than enough to sustain and entertain us as a family. And you know what? I am far less anxious about provision now. Because like the Bible says, how much more do you mean to God compared to the birds in the sky and the flowers in the fields right? He provides. And He's always on time. Don't worry.

If we are faithless, He remains Faithful; for He cannot deny Himself.
2 Timothy 2:13

But it's so hard when it seems like God doesn't listen.
My heart hurts, does He even care?
I don't really feel like praying to Him right now or ever. I'm too hurt. It won't work.

We are so flawed as people. We lie, cheat and steal. We sin. We hurt people, hurt ourselves and aren't exactly the best example of righteousness and justice. So why again are we assuming God is the same?

One thing I want to stress is that you shouldn't mistake God's love with the love of people. People will always disappoint you. Hurt you. But God's love never ceases. It never changes. God loves us on the good days and on the bad days. He doesn't love you any less, no matter how you perform in life. That's the beauty of His Grace and His Love.

I know what it's like to not want to pray anymore. To be so disappointed and hurt, to feel so ignored that you can't even begin to start a prayer. But let me ask you this: If you runaway from God, where will you go?

There is so much to be grateful for.

I know that sounds cliche but you have to remember that life is a journey and we all must continue on. (take note: MUST) Some days are going to be harder than others. Some are going to be so perfect you'll want to relive them again. Every moment spent afraid and worried is a moment of happiness wasted. It's not always going to be easy. There are going to be some pretty bad, horrible, disgustingly sad days. But you are also going to have some of the most marvelous, incredibly insane, absolutely fantastic love-filled days too. And don't you think those are the days you should focus on?

I'm not promising you the perfect life. But I am reminding you of our PERFECT God.

When it hurts too much,
when it gets too tough,
when people disappoint you,
and life doesn't seem all that,
remember this:

He's listening.
He's watching.
He's working.
And He loves you more than you will ever truly know.

Trust in Him. He's more than proven Himself worthy of that trust.
