My Healthy (ish) Breakfast

By Karla Aguas - 12:03:00 PM

Hi guys!

I thought I'd make this entry because I've been getting a ton of Instagram DMs asking for the recipe for my current obsession- my breakfast.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm still a sucker for the super sugary cereals of my childhood (See: Lucky Charms, Koko Crunch and Fruity Pebbles) but I've been trying to eat healthier lately and I can honestly say I've never felt better. I never understood how YouTubers and celebrities could have a pot of yogurt for breakfast and feel full. For someone who has bad acid reflux like me, that sounds like a death wish. Well, after some research and loads of experimentation (yum), I managed to find a balanced breakfast that's both healthy and filling for me. Remember that you can totally tweak this to whatever fits your taste but this is what I've been loving lately. And the best part? It takes little to no time and no cooking whatsoever (well, except if you make your own granola like me #overachiever)

Please also remember that I am not a nutritionist and what may work for me may not necessarily work for you.  I work from 9AM to 1PM before I have my actual lunch and this breakfast really does keep me full until then. I also have a cup of green tea during my show since I'm trying to cut back on the coffee (Huhu)

Karla's Breakfast Bowl

1/4 cup of Granola (you can use store bought but I like to make my own so there's less sugar and it's really easy)
1/4 cup of Greek or Non Fat Yogurt (I personally love the BTIC ones)
1 tablespoon of Manuka Honey
1 ripe Banana
A handful of berries (I love using frozen blueberries, strawberries and raspberries)
A sprinkle of Chia Seeds (mine are from Trader Joes)

All you need is a bowl and spoon and everything else gets dumped in. I put the yogurt first then the granola then just add all my fruits and honey in one go. As for the frozen fruits, groceries sell them in bags in the freezer section and some are priced really good. Frozen fruits are actually picked at their peak so you're getting quality fruits! :)

If you're not such a fan of tart yogurt and want a bit of sweetness feel free to add some Maple Syrup (get the pure, not flavored one- it's more expensive but better for you with its natural sugars

I love adding Chia Seeds cause they're a great source of fiber, Omega 3s, protein and antioxidants. I love using Manuka Honey as well because since I don't really take vitamins, it acts as a natural multi-vitamin and it helps my reflux acid. You'd be surprised at how many natural foods there are that aim to help health/digestion problems. It's amazing!

So there you guys have it! My quick and easy Breakfast Bowl. Let me know if you want the recipe for my Homemade Cinnamon Honey Granola (it's literally the easiest thing ever!) and let me know if you decide to try this breakfast bowl! :)

Happy weekend! :)
