back to basics

Can you believe it's already April?! 2017 is going by faster than my morning oatmeal (I get instant oats, it takes like 3 minutes to cook on the stove #ImpatientGirlProbz) and with April comes of course, the summer heat. And in true Karla fashion, I welcome the heat and summer sunshine in a sweater... and jeans. In my defense, I'm wearing mules, my jeans are ripped and my face has absolutely no makeup (except kilay, because kilay is life) so let's chat a bit about my go-to items.

These ripped jeans are a closet staple for me. I got them a couple of years back from H&M and I've been wearing them at least once a week. The rips have gotten a lot bigger than they originally were and the denim has faded a bit but they're even more comfortable than when I first got them. H&M is a great place to get bargain jeans that won't die after the first wash.

My mules and sweater are both from ZARA and I love them to death. I remember getting the sweater December of last year at P995 because I absolutely hated the shirt I was wearing that night #firstworldprobz, I know. It's a light fabric so it's cool on the body but still cozy enough to wear even when it gets a bit cooler.

The mules I got as a "testing" shoe because I've been saving up to buy myself a pair of Gucci Slingback Loafers (still saving... still saving huhu) and I wanted to see if I'd get a lot of wear out of this style of footwear and I gotta say... I COULD LIVE IN THESE FOREVER. Made of genuine leather with the cutest bow detail on top I find that I can dress these mules up or down depending on my mood. They look great with everything- culottes, dresses, shorts, skirts, jeans and even dungarees. They're just like wearing slippers!

This bag. Let me start with this gorgeous bag. My mom gave me this bag and I haven't stopped using it since. It's an all leather Longchamp with two compartments and a cute little bamboo accent. I love wearing it cross body but it works great over the shoulder as well. Did I mention that it holds absolutely everything? From my glasses to my wallet, my lipbalm and makeup kit, this is my version of a "Mary Poppins" bag.

My Sunnies Specs have been a constant companion for me these past few months. After weeks of being in denial about wearing glasses, I finally bit the bullet and went to the Sunnies Specs branch in Glorietta just to see if I needed them. I had been getting headaches and my eyes would have a hard time focusing on objects and words from a distance (anyone else singing that line? God is watching ussss.... from a distance... Oh just me? lol kthanksbye) I got the Kennedy style and I love them! They're light weight and super comfortable to wear and only cost me P2,999. I paid an extra P1,000 for the blue light protection layer since I use my laptop and phone everyday for work. My headaches have become less frequent (usually just get them when the weather changes drastically) and I can now watch movies and read easily (everything to me is HD now, YAY!)

Soooo... there you guys have it. My feeble attempt at a "style-esque" post. I honestly don't know how these fashion bloggers and style stars do it because I'm so awkward lolz. Hopefully you guys found this helpful. Time for me to hop in the shower and get ready for a buffet dinner because #HangryGirl4Lyf

Til next time! xx

  1. Hi Karla,

First of all, your new specs suit you really well! Also, I've always thought you were one of the prettiest girls in our batch since we were in gradeschool (yes, I'm an old girl too!)

Anyhow, I hope you don't mind me asking, but recently, I've really just been wondering why you don't really talk about or mention your sister Kara, or your brother Paolo in any of your posts. I mean it crossed my mind because in one of your tumblr blog posts you talked about them (the one with the Shang date w/ Kara). And it also seems like you're really really close with your mom and your sister Trina. So it got me thinking, why Kara and Paolo have been MIA. I was also wondering because I remember that I also admired your sister Kara when used to see her visit you in her AC college uniform.

I'll completely understand if you don't answer my question if it's a bit too personal, but there.

Thanks and all the best! :)

    1. Hello! No worries and thank you for your kind words. The reason why I don't talk about my sister Kara and brother Paolo is because they no longer live with us. So I spend all of my time with Trina and my Mom. :)
