Traveling Tooshie: Malaysiaaaa, Truly Asiaaaa! (Part I)

8:54:00 PM

Hi Guys! Sorry it's taking me a whole month to update again- I have been crazyyyy busy these past few weeks (and kinda lazy) that I haven't even really gotten a chance to check my emails (HI LUCY I LOVE YOU I WILL CHECK SOON) but I decided it was about time to blog again and what better way to start blogging by sharing with you all my trip to:

MALAYSIAAAAAAA, Truly ASIAAAAAA

Okay sorry. I just can't get their tourism commercial tune out of my head every time I say their country. Zzzzz. #loserako

So anyway, here are some basics about our trip: My older sister Trina and I planned this trip around October of last year because she was able to find us a flight that was on a SEAT SALE. We ended up only paying a really small amount compared to what we would've had to pay if we booked it at a regular price.

TRAVEL TIP: Try to sign up for those seat sale and flight promo emails of your chosen airlines so you can stay ahead with whatever promos they have. You save a TON of money which can be used for your hotel, food or shopping money. Seat sales are your best friends!
It also really helped that our Dad lives in Malaysia. We were also very lucky that he was in town on the days of our trip (he travels A LOT and is actually never in one place for a long time so yay us and God's timing! Hehe). Also our friend Ira booked the same trip so we were able to hang out with her too! It was a great trip and the timing of everything was PERFECT. Such a blessing.
So Trina and I left on Thursday, July 4 in the evening. But before our flight at 8:55 PM, here was my schedule:

6:30 AM  to   12 NN        - Preschool Teacher in San Juan
1:00 PM   to   4:30 PM     - MYX Taping in ABS CBN
4:30 PM   to   5:00 PM     - Rushed home to San Juan to pick up Trina
6:30 PM                            - Airport

TADAHHH!!! I honestly don't know how I survived it but to make things even more exciting, our flight was delayed 30 minutes. So we ended up leaving at 9:45 PM and arrived in Malaysia a little after 1 AM.
Trina and I eating before our flight to Malaysia :)
Our Dad met us at the airport and drove us to our awesome hotel. We ended up staying at One World Hotel- probably one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was (despite being super sleepy and tired from the flight).

DAY 1

We woke up at 7:30 AM after sleeping at 3:00 AM (Bakit ang daming times sa entry noh? I'm so weird) cause our friend Ira was going to pick us up for breakfast. I was super excited since this was going to be my first official meal in Malaysia. I felt legit.

Kamusta naman belly button ko. Pabida. HAHA
We ate in this really cute and super low key restaurant called Penang Street and I finally got to try LEGIT Kaya toast and the famous Ipoh white coffee. I was so in love (if you've ever eaten in Toast Box then you would know what Kaya toast is) and guys, I died. It.Was.Too.Good. TOO GOOD. And it only cost 2.30 Ringgit (P31.28)! That's another thing I started to love about Malaysia- THE FOOD IS SUPER GOOD AND CHEAP!!! :)

Crazy girls = Good times :)
We then started to "explore" the country more by... visiting our first mall! Yup! Such tourists HAHA :)) We hit up Paradigm Mall- a smaller mall than the one by our hotel but it was just as fun to go around. I love visiting malls in other countries because I enjoy comparing the layouts to the ones here in Manila. Plus I love the fact that they have some stores that aren't here in Manila yet (HELLO H&M!). Suffice to say, on our first day in Malaysia, we already spent some of our money. :| #fail

I was so happy because I got to visit my favorite store (after TopShop) H&M! I really love shopping there because the clothes are nice, comfy and reasonably priced. It also helps that not a lot of people have the designs back home since you have to go abroad to buy them. (Although I hear someone is bringing H&M here, can anyone confirm this?) and I got to go to makeup Heaven, Sephora!

After hanging out with Ira, Trina and I headed back to the hotel to rest (yes, shopping is a sport OKAY) before meeting up with our Dad for lunch at the mall right beside our Hotel- One Utama. I was so excited to see him since I hadn't seen him for quite awhile and I knew he was going to be able to give us lots of tips and show us around.

We ate in this yummy restaurant called Madam Kwan's and I was able to try one of Malaysia's signature dishes- Nasi Lemak! It consists of coconut rice (I'm not a rice lover but I could eat about 8 cups of this NO JOKE and no judging, please :( ), fried chicken/chicken, cucumber, dilis, spicy sauce, peanuts, egg and this powdery type thing. Take note, in order to super enjoy this dish, you are advised to get all these things in your mouth in one subo. #challengeaccepted! It was so yummy and spicy! I loved it.
Huli ka! Such Instagrammers Haha
With our Dad! :)

A little disappointed in their Victoria's Secret Store though... They didn't have a ton of stuff unlike the US!
Decided to treat Dad and Trina to some Baskin Robbins. I was so happy to see this again! :)
After exploring the mall a bit with our Dad (and some more shopping), we all headed back to the hotel to change for our little trip to... THE PETRONAS TOWERS!!! Ahhh!!!

Just to share, I actually have two bucketlists- One is for the things I need to do before I die (shave my head, dye it blonde, write a book, etc etc) and the second is for the places I need to visit before I die. And guys, the Petronas Towers was one of them!!! I was so happy and excited I decided to wear a dress to celebrate the occasion. (Career?)

After being stuck in traffic for a little over an hour (my Dad ended up passing the wrong way and we got caught in Malaysian traffic) we finally arrived just in time! It was great to be able to see the towers during the day and then looking out again at night! We were able to get two shots in! :)

By the awesome fountain show!

With Dad- I am proud to say I chose his outfit HAHA
Eeeep!!!! So kilig!!!
If you haven't visited Malaysia yet or are planning to visit, PLEASE do visit the Petronas Towers. I know a lot of movies, commercials and posters already show them but guys, in person, it's just so BREATHTAKING. I never thought that something so "urban" and man-made" could be so beautiful. I was literally in AWE. It just goes to show how far man has come with the skills that God has given. :)

Watching the cool water show!
FACT: The water show only plays one song... MY HEART WILL GO ON. Cheesy songs used for artistic performances? ALWAYS.A.WINNER.

<3

After soaking up all we could of the Petronas we had a yummy dinner at this super cool restaurant called Ben's. We had to list ourselves and walk around for a bit since it was full and people were really lining up for tables. When we finally got our table I realized how nice the place was because it was so modern and yet it had this "home-y" feel to it- very New York/Gossip Girl as well. The food was delicious and we knew why we ended up having to wait for a table! Definitely worth it! :)

My order: Ben's Cheeseburger! SOOOO GOOD!!!!
DAY 2

Our second day in Malaysia was devoted more to shopping and exploring the malls. But before our mall trips, Trina and I decided to have breakfast in the McDonalds at our mall (1 Utama). I love being able to go the different McDonalds all over the world because each one always offers something unique to the country. And true enough, McDonalds Malaysia was different! I had the Egg McMuffin with Chicken Roll while Trina had the Chicken McMuffin. Since Malaysia has a pretty big Muslim population, I loved how McDonalds was able to adapt to their culture and make items on the menu chicken. It was so yummy!

I also went crazy because they had a condiments counter with GRAPE JAM!!! I stocked up and ate it with everything (Happy kuripot Karla). We were also so happy because we were able to get Minions! Since it was out of stock everywhere back in Manila, we thought we would never be able to get our hands on any of them... but we did! And in Malaysia pa! Oh diba? SOSYALLLL HAHAHA :))

FACT: Trina and I went to One Utama everyday that we were in KL and we still got lost. We got lost every single time. I loved bonding with her though! Haha :)) Anyway...

My Dad ended up taking us to Pavilion Mall which is this huge mall in the city. Across Pavilion Mall is also a HUGE Sephora and a HUGE H&M which we also hit. We were very happy too because a lot of the stores were on sale. YAY! :)

Days 1 and 2 :)
Before even heading to Malaysia, Trina did some research on good restaurants to try. It just so happens that she found this super good ramen place in Malaysia that was in Pavilion Mall! She treated us to a delicious lunch at Ippudo Ramen and we had so much fun because some of the waiters and waitresses in the restaurant were Filipino! It was nice to be able to talk to them and see how they were doing. They really appreciated being spoken to in Filipino as well so it was great to see the big smiles on their faces. :)

I am still dreaming about this Ramen and the Japanese Cucumber Appetizer <3<3<3
After a lot of walking around and shopping in H&M and Sephora, we headed back to Pavilion for some afternoon tea. I loved how there was a TWG in the mall too! :)

Our Dad then took us to the "Forbes Park" equivalent of KL and we were able to see where he cycles on the weekends. You see, my Dad is big on cycling and eve joins those races and stuff with his friends. It was great to be able to bond with him and see how his days are. We also got to stop by his suki for fruits! Yes, we were able to buy fruits in Malaysia... from a FRUIT TRUCK! What made this even more memorable was what happened while we were looking at the fruits. Let me explain...

So we're there, looking at the fruits. Trina is standing about 10 feet away from the truck since she HATES fruits. As in HATES them (you cannot even touch her if you've touched ANY fruit) and Dad and I were looking around. Then his suki looks at me and then turns to my Dad...

Suki: *something in Chinese*
Dad: *looks at me*
Me: *looks at Dad* What is she sayi-

WHACK!!!! Dad punches me in my left eye

Me: *in so much pain* OMG WHY DID YOU PUNCH ME IN THE FACE!!!
Dad: There was an H1N1 mosquito on your face!!!
Me: So?? Did you need to punch me for it?? It's so painful!!!
Dad: I killed it. I saved your life.

Yeahp... it would only happen to me. So apparently my Dad, an IT genius is also an entomologist. :| Now back to the good times...

Check out the GIANT Taiwanese mango we bought! It was soo yummy too! :)
So that's basically it for our first two days in Malaysia. Stay tuned for the next entry on the other days featuring Legoland, Hello Kitty Town and so much more!

I'm happy I finally got to blog after so long. Hope you guys enjoyed Part 1 of this entry! :)
