How to Feel Good About Yourself 101
2:39:00 PMI decided to make a blog entry on "feeling good about yourself" since I've been getting a lot of emails and message requests about an entry on this kind of topic (Yes! I have more than 5 readers na! I'm officially a blogger HAHA not).
So I've decided to list down the 5 things I do to make myself FEEL GOOD ABOUT BEING ME. Hopefully this will make sense, make you laugh, help you and add a little boost of confidence in your step. Cause let's face it, there's no greater feeling that being absolutely content, secure and HAPPY about being, YOU. :)
How to Feel Good About Yourself 101 (In 5 Steps)
1. Start your day with a Good Thought
I believe that when you start anything on a good note, you are more likely to be happy all throughout the day. With this being said, I think it's important to try and ALWAYS start your day by telling yourself that you will be nothing but HAPPY.
It's sometimes hard to do, but if you WILL yourself enough, you can do it. Whether it be waking up and smiling, having a good breakfast or reading a passage from the Bible, any simple thing can help jump start your morning and day to being really, really good. I personally like waking up and praying. I find that when I start my day with a prayer, I feel like I can do anything. Yes I'm groggy and sleepy and lazy to get up, but I pray and thank God for a new day to be better and do better. You see, it may be hard at first, but when you realize how much better you feel throughout the day, you will try to find any way to start your morning right.
2. Treat yourself to a Little Something
Remember when you were a kid and you used to get a little reward for being good? A toy, a piece of candy or even a stamp from your teacher? Do you remember how GREAT it made you feel receiving it? Well, think about it this way- Life is full of little pleasures and simple joys that can make any person feel good. You don't have to spend tons of money to make yourself happy. I honestly believe that the things that cost little can have the most impact on your day, on how you see yourself. If you're not feeling too good about yourself, treat yourself to something that will perk you up!

Oh my chocolate-y GOODNESS! |
Buy yourself a good cup of coffee from Starbucks, grab yourself a hot pandesal with butter, get a slice of yummy chocolate cake or listen to your favorite playlist or song for a few minutes. Reward yourself for being YOU. Treat yourself to a little something JUST BECAUSE. You are unique, you are your own person, you are YOU. And that deserves a REWARD. Why? Just because.
Allow yourself to indulge a little. Think about it this way- with all the problems you have faced, whether it be a petty problem or a big one, you are here, right now. Reward yourself for getting through some of your toughest days. Reward yourself for being able to live another day with new adventures and new hope. reward yourself. Just. Because.
3. Wear one of your Favorite Things
Clothes, perfume, and accessories can really influence how you feel about yourself. There's nothing worse than wearing uncomfortable clothing on a day where you feel really bad about yourself or about your day. It's the same as wearing something totally unflattering on a day that you feel miserable.
My philosophy is this: I may not feel good about myself today, but that doesn't mean I won't LOOK GOOD!
It's true, there are days where you're just too lazy to dress up or put much effort into what you wear but that just ends up adding to your misery. It's all about confidence- if you like what you're wearing or how you look, it will reflect on your attitude throughout the day. I don't know about you but when I wear something I love and I know can make me feel more confident, I instantly become a different person. I become one of those girls that feels so gorgeous ("FEELS SO GORGEOUS" HA, I'M NOT SAYING SOBRANG MAGANDA AKO. BAWAL MA OFFEND HAHA).
With the right outfit, accessories, spritz of cologne you can go from feeling like this:
To feeling like this:

Ako yan btw HAHAHA |
4. Look Back Fondly and Think Ahead Positively
Memories can totally change our mood. From the sad, depressing memories that leave you wanting to curl up into a ball and cry forever, to the memories that make you smile from ear to ear and add a jump to your step. Use the happy memories. Remember the good times.
Remember all the challenges you have faced and CONQUERED. Remember all your small victories- passing a test, getting a pair of killer shoes on sale, impressing your boss with a job well done, cheering up a friend when they were down. These are positive memories. These are good things to look back at. Use these past memories to FUEL A POSITIVE OUTLOOK OF THE FUTURE. You see, you already have victories- use these to inspire your future, whatever challenges lie ahead.
Try looking at it this way: You got through whatever problems you had in the past. They seemed impossible to get over before but you did it. And you survived. You're where you are, because you were strong enough to overcome the problem. That's motivation. That's the inspiration you need for the rest of your day. Whenever I think of all the things I've accomplished, big and small, it makes me happy and more confident in myself. It makes me realize that I may not be the perfect version of myself yet, the person that I was meant to become, but I sure as heck am getting closer. And you are too. Everyday is a chance to be one day closer to who you are MEANT to become. Isn't that enough reason to feel good about yourself?
5. NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE
I truly believe this is the most important way to make yourself feel good about being you. Never, ever ever, COMPARE yourself to ANYONE. It's hard to do, and you won't get it in one go, but with a little time and a more conscious effort, you can learn to let go and just be you.
Instead of comparing yourself to someone else, try comparing who you are NOW, with who you WERE a year ago. Are you better? Smarter? Nicer? If you're going to compare yourself to anyone, compare yourself to who you were yesterday. Figure out how you can continue to better yourself. Become the BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF. That's the best way to go about things.
You see, once you stop comparing, you start feeling better about yourself. You start feeling GOOD. You realize that instead of looking at what others have and you don't, you count your blessings more and learn to love yourself more. You may not be as rich, or as smart as someone else, but you have your strengths too. Think of it that way and you'll be happier. You'll feel good about yourself. Why? Because you are you.
So there. Just a few thoughts on what I do to make myself feel good about being me. I have my flaws and my shortcomings, but I also have my victories and my strengths. I am constantly bettering myself and figuring out the best way to live my life as happy as I can be. I have every right to be happy. And so do you. Everyday we get another chance to live the life God has planned for us. Every day we are one step closer in becoming the best version of ourselves. :)

VERY INSPIRING. :"> Totoo nga yung sinabi mo na ginawa tayong unique ni God kaya wag icompare ang sarili sa iba. Naalala ko yung nabasa ko na "If you compare yourself to others, you're just insulting yourself." Parang ganyan yun? :) Thank you Ms. :)

DeleteHello Ate Karla, I've read your past blog entries and this one is definitely the one that struck through my heart the most to the point that I cried. 2 years ago, I went through some depression and got suicidal once but I managed to end it already. But it is slowly haunting me until now.
ReplyDeleteThis entry of yours lifted me up .I've been reading your fans' tweets/comments about you and I've always seen the word "inspiring" attached to your name. I thought that they were talking about how you inspired them in fashion or make up, but it turns out, you inspire people, COMPLETELY.You change lives for the better. You are a BLESSING ate Karla. You are my role model and I want to be like you in the future.
Thank you ate Karla and God bless. Stay Beautiful Inside and Outside ;) <3
First of all, congratulations on NOT succeeding with your suicidal tendencies and CONGRATULATIONS for being alive here today! That takes a lot of strength and courage to overcome. I am so happy that you are here. :)
DeleteSecond, ONE BIG AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. I can't tell you how good and warm and loved it makes me feel to know that my blog means something to someone. And that in my own little way, without fancy clothes or makeup, I can impact someone. My silly entries though extra silly, really do have messages- LOVE LIFE. LOVE YOURSELF. LOVE GOD. LOVE OTHERS. That's really it :)
Thank you for your comment!!!
I love this blog. It's very inspiring. I learned a lot. I'm very confident. Thank you Ate Karla for this entry. BTW, can I call you "Ate Karla"? you're 9 years older than me. hihi. Can I? (kahit na parang feeling close ang dating? XD )
ReplyDeleteHi Ricka! I honestly don't know if I will ever get used to being called "Ate" since my own little brother doesn't call me that. Karla is fine, promise. Haha :) I'm glad you learned something from all my rambling. Hope you come back for the other entries!
DeleteHi Karla!
ReplyDeleteCan you blog a tutorial about your everyday makeup? hihi!
Sure! I'll try to do that soon :)
DeleteKarla,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely blog post! I particularly like your suggestion to treat ourselves just for being us - and even more - when we are feeling down (and hence not even when we have done something clever or special).
I write a lot about trying to achieve goals we have set ourselves but it is also very important to feel good about yourself before reaching your goal, as if we're waiting to achieve our goal before we feel good - it might never happen!
Hi Jan!
DeleteThank you so much for that, I'm glad you enjoyed this entry. I totally agree with you! I think it's very important to first be HAPPY with ourselves and who we are because that will help FUEL us to further pursue our goals and dreams! Very true! :)
Hi ate karla I just finished reading this entry and its very entertaining and inspirational. Aside from that may itatanong lang sana ako, how do you inhance your english skills? Ang galing mo kasi mag english eh :))) - leann
ReplyDeleteHi Leann! Thank you, I'm glad you found this entry inspirational. :) To be able to enhance your English I suggest reading a lot of books- especially when you're free. I love reading books and I noticed that my vocabulary broadened when I started reading more and more books. All it takes is practice as well :)
Deletei agree to this karl, when I started reading books parang naglevel up nga yung english vocabulary ko. from english 101 now im on english 102 na charaught! AHAHAHA :DD just passing by HAHA --JANE :)
DeleteHi Karla!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, this has been so inspirational to me. I am glad I was able to browse and visit your blog. The mere fact of just reading this one, adds a boost to showcase my confidence, to which I am really lacking.
I have a blog too and still trying to improve myself to become a better blogger. Hoping you could give me tips on how to be an effective writer just like you do.
Thank you Karla, for being an exceptional writer who inspires many to become not just a better person but to have an amazing relationship with God as well.
You are truly more than just a pretty face. :-)
Thanks for reading my entry! I hope you enjoyed it. :)
